Bellevue Residence
Completed 2023
Approximately 3000 s.f. including Garage
Our renovation of this Bellevue residence involved a comprehensive retrofit of interior and exterior finishes and layouts. Originally built in 1959, the home presented a unique opportunity for architectural enhancement. Typical of many Mid-Century Modern houses, the design thoughtfully separated sleeping areas from public spaces such as the kitchen, dining, and living rooms, optimizing natural light—morning light for sleeping areas and afternoon light for entertainment spaces.
Collaborating closely with the owners, Mike and Collette, we explored several design iterations before finalizing the built solution. The renovation encompassed all interior aspects, with notable modifications to the staircase, kitchen, bathrooms, laundry, dining, and living areas - including a new AV Room. Some key takeaways on this project: Original T&G ceilings were kept, refinished where needed with new roofing and insulation installed above. The Dining Area was opened to the Kitchen - making this core element of the house more functional for a family with two young children. The Kitchen itself was completely reconfigured and updated with custom cabinetry and new appliances. Slatted screens were installed to create a privacy separation from the Entry to the Dining Area - as well as to create a desk Alcove in the Living Room. The Master Bathroom was reconfigured and enlarged - including a large glazed opening to a private outdoor viewing garden. Children’s Bathroom was renovated to allow overlapping use while keeping separation. The Garage has been reworked to also double as bike storage and repair space.
While energy efficiency was a key consideration, our primary goal was to honor the original architecture and materials, with an aim to seamlessly integrate our clients' modern lifestyle into this classic 1959 home.
